Although this is the horror genre when applying 3 colour combination in the context of an environment it doesn't always create a scary atmosphere. What has been found from carrying out this study is the higher the contrast then the more likely it will feel unsettling.
The mid-tones a sense of uncertainty; a subtle feeling of terror but is still relevant.

These are some palettes that can be used for environments for the horror genre as long as there is a contrasting dark colour.
